Depression

Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person’s thoughts, behavior, feelings, and sense of well-being. It is often associated with problematic perceptions of oneself, others, and/or the world. It can cause disturbances in sleep, interests, energy, concentration, appetite, and also produce feelings of guilt, hopelessness and worthless. Left untreated depression can lead to suicidal thoughts and behavior. There are different types of depression to include: major depression, disruptive mood dysregulation, persistent depression/dysthymia, and premenstrual dysphoria to name a few. Common empirically supported treatments include: cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, interpersonal therapy, and medication.
