Anxiety

Anxiety is an emotion characterized by an unpleasant state of inner turmoil, tension, or worry, often accompanied by nervous behavior, such as pacing back and forth, physical pains/discomfort (elevated heartrate, sweating and other physical symptoms), and frequently thinking/worrying about the problem. It may involve a subjective perspective of dread over anticipated events, places, or animals/objects/things. There are different types of anxiety problems to include: separation anxiety, phobias, social anxiety, panic, and generalized anxiety to name a few. Common empirically supported treatments include cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, and/or medication.

Note: Obsessive Compulsive problems and trauma related problems are related to anxiety disorders, but have additional factors that contribute to distress.
